The Project Brief
I chose for one of my degree projects to redesign Bauhaus 93 to make it more versatile and modern. My aim was to make the font more professional so that it could be used on different types of design. As Bauhaus 93 is mainly used for the entertaiment industry and childrens brands such as PlayMobile.
The Process
When coming up with the style of the font I decided on using hexagons instead of circles to give the design a modern look.
To create the original sketch of the font I used a home made light box and a print out of Bauhaus 93. Then I used the structure of the original font to help create consistency throughout my design.
Once I created some intial letter designs in Illustrator I made my first font concept using Glypher which is a browser based font creator.
It took seven versions to find a design that worked and was usable.
For the name I chose to call the font New Haus 24 to reference the original font while stil being unique.
One element I did not manage to improve was the scaling as the symbols are too big and the lower-case letters are too large.
The End Result
I think that the final outcome is effective because I used the font or letters for different designs such as my CV and portfolio PDF cover. I would improve the final design by making the letter sizes more consitent. Also I would work on making a font family as I made the font in a few months I think that I did alright as normally a font takes a year or more to create. I am lookinng to use the font throughout my branding as it is unique or look to sell the font commercially.Â
